MySpace as an Educational Tool

The world of social media and networking is so vast that you can manipulate it however you deem appropriate. But as an educational tool, why not? After all, the social media and networking world is free for all; just use it along with proper responsibility and etiquette and you will surely benefit from it.

Social media sites, if used properly, prove to be very favorable to students. Online sharing of articles, items, video and audio clips can be used by students for better information that can aid them on their daily life, inside and outside of school. Professors and teachers can also conduct online classes if and when the need arises. Some schools even allow students to download books and articles to be used inside the classroom instead of buying them in bookstores. Submissions of projects are also done online. This is how beneficial social networks have become to ordinary students. Art teachers welcome MySpace technologies for their classes as they believe that hands-on lessons are more effective than verbal and texts; more often than not, they succeed with higher number of learning students within their classes. There are also seminars conducted for teachers interested in integrating technologies with their everyday teaching methods. This will allow students and teachers’ bonding in a more common ground and less formal than their supposed interaction in classroom settings.

Unfortunately, although there are many teaching professionals supporting MySpace as an educational tool, there are those who are a bit skeptical about it and a few totally opposing the use of all social media sites for educational purposes, even proposing a total ban for such in libraries and classrooms.

Your Campus Life and MySpace

MySpace has come a long way from just being a social networking group.  MySpace today is a complex web of organizations, families, friends, groups and businesses.  The world has gotten smaller because of network groups like MySpace which helps not only friends and families get in touch but it has also helped group members, businesses and organizations break through the World Wide Web.

Bloggers have been flocking to MySpace to tell the whole world not only their experiences but also to broadcast and share their daily lives.  Sharing experiences about school or those related to school is one of the most favorite blogged about topics in MySpace.  College students who are away from home for the first time can write about the new happenings at their campus.  And since a MySpace account is your personal page, you can write about anything you want and share these to your friends and family or those on your social network.  You can create layout designs with your school logo and colors.  You can post notes, tips, studying schedules and other school stuff in your page to help visitors and let friends see what you are up to.

Some schools and universities also have pages on MySpace.  They can post upcoming events, rallies or exams.  Students can visit these pages and get updates on the latest in school.  Since design and layout are important promotional materials to help recall, dress up or design your school page in a classy layout.  You include and mp3 of your school hymn or photo slide shows of your campus.
